The Shelter of Sacred Intelligence: A Reflection on Psalm 91 | 05.14.2025

This morning, I stepped onto my yoga mat for the first time since returning from vacation. Realigning to my rhythm of 6am yoga was a small victory— but it opened the door to something more mysterious, a divine answer to a question on my Spirit. Often on my way to class, my productivity-oriented monkey mind habitually loads up a podcast or an ebook. But this morning, the Bluetooth connection failed me—or so I thought. Driving through the hush of a still-sleeping world, my car humming along dark pre-dawn roads, I found myself meditating on the mysteries of Heaven and the promise of the New Earth. My mind wandered through the landscape of eternal union, spiritual embodiment, and the divine architecture of what lies beyond, gently piecing together revelations from recent reflections and conversations.

As I settled into the familiar space of the studio, alongside Steven—someone I’ve practiced beside many times—I noticed for the first time a tattoo on his shoulder: the words “Psalm 91” underneath a symbol of the Beloved Trinity. This serendipitous discovery became the key to a deeper interpretation of the psalm, one that speaks to the sacred intelligence we’re all journeying back into. It was a reminder that the divine can speak to us in the smallest details through the thin veil of ordinary moments, guiding us toward a deeper alignment with eternal truth.

As I moved through the familiar postures, my mind kept returning to Steven’s tattoo and the message of Psalm 91. The psalm opens with:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1)

It’s a poetic reminder that when we align ourselves with sacred intelligence, we are embraced by an unshakable source of protection, strength, and peace. Further down, the psalm offers this assurance:

He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day.” (Psalm 91:4–5)

The “evil” and “pestilence” mentioned are not just literal threats but also the symbolic challenges and fears—like ego, selfishness, greed, or the compulsion to control—that can pull us away from our divine center.

As I reflected on this, it became clear that the psalm is not merely about external protection but about the internal transformation that occurs when we live in alignment with the divine. It’s a journey back to our true nature—not the innocence of untested Eden, but a matured wholeness shaped by the full spectrum of our human experience. This is not a return to naivety, but an arrival into the integrated harmony of a redeemed creation, where the illusions of fear and separation fall away, leaving us in a state of sacred union and trust.

This perspective invites us to see every challenge— every moment of contrast—those moments where something arises that stands in opposition to the nature of God or Love. Sometimes that contrast looks like ego flaring, selfishness whispering, greed creeping in, or the need to control tightening its grip. Other times, it surfaces as old pain—wounds of loss, fear, neglect, or abandonment that shaped our earliest stories and taught us to self-protect instead of surrender. These shadows obscure Love, yet they are often the very moments that call us toward sacred intelligence in the first place—as an opportunity for transformation.

When we face difficulties, it’s often the sacred intelligence gently revealing something that needs integration within us. These moments of contrast are not obstacles, but invitations to grow—calling us to align more closely with eternal truth and embrace the full spectrum of our human experience.

By accepting that these challenges are part of our journey back to wholeness, we can see them as catalysts for deeper integration. Each experience, no matter how difficult, becomes a step toward aligning with the sacred intelligence that resides within and around us.

Yet, the beauty of Psalm 91 also lies in its promise of harmony. But this is not a passive promise—it is a call to participation. We don’t merely pray for love or wait for protection to descend upon us; we choose to walk in the ways of love. We are invited to lead lives of harmony with the Beloved and with His creation. When we align our actions, thoughts, and relationships with the sacred intelligence that permeates all things, we embed ourselves in that divine current—and it is there that protection, peace, and purpose unfold. In this harmony with the Beloved and creation, we discover the ultimate shelter—not just from external threats, but from the inner turmoil that keeps us from recognizing our true nature.

In that sacred space of heaven’s order, we’re reminded that we are part of something greater, something infinitely loving and wise. Here, we find not only protection but also a deep sense of belonging and purpose, a reminder that we are always held in the loving embrace of the Creator.

The psalm closes with a final promise, one that now echoes through this morning’s unfolding:

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” (Psalm 91:14)

It is a tender reminder that love is the through-line—our setting of love upon the Sacred, and the Sacred’s unrelenting faithfulness in return. In this mutual knowing, we are not just protected—we are elevated.
